Thursday’s Top 4 – Books I Read For the Cover

thursdays top 4

June 7: books you read because of something superficial (ex. the cover, the general topic)

Thursday’s Top 4 theme, books you bought for superficial reasons, I’m going to talk about books that I bought just because I loved their covers. Which I know the phrase, “you can’t judge a book by it’s cover”. Which is certainly true but you can still buy it because of its amazing cover.

The Walls Around Us by Nova Ren Suma

I don’t know what it is about this cover that just grabs me. But I love the colors used and it has kind of an eerie feeling, much like the story itself.

Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman

This book’s cover is obviously stunning but also simple. Unfortunately I have yet to read this one yet, because I actually pre-ordered the paperback edition, and it isn’t released until September :///

Piecing Me Together by Renee Watson

This is the UK edition which I got from Book Depository. I also love the US edition but this one a little bit more. I love the collage style of it and the minimalistic red and white color scheme. Also the use of the Spanish words that is also seen throughout the book with its chapter headers.

The Diviners by Libba Bray (#1 The Diviners series)

This won’t be the last time I talk about this specific cover because I ADORE THIS SO MUCH. I specifically picked this book because of that EYE and the haunting, 1920s aesthetic it has. But I’m so glad for this cover, because I ended up loving this book. It works so well for the story of atmosphere and aesthetic for The DivinersBut it’s such a shame that this series has had way too many cover changes when this one was sooo perfect already. :/
