Top 5 Wednesday – Books Removed from TBR

So I have to honest I really need to sort through my TBR on Goodreads.

It’s a little…out of control. Ever since I started Goodreads I’ve just kept adding books and I a haven’t gotten around to deleting the books off my shelves that I know for sure I’m never reading.

These are just some of the more recent books I’ve removed whether its because they are books I have lost interest in or books that I don’t want to read ever because of problematic elements that have been brought up about them.

DISCLAIMER: You can still want to read these, you don’t need to listen to me. 🤷

Ship It by Britta Lundin

This book sounded like it would be something I would love. It has shipping, fandoms, a F/F romance. However after reading some more critical reviews of this I decided not to read this since it’s rep is harmful and there’s a lot of problematic and very questionable content. I’m going to share this person’s video review of this book here because they talk about these issues in a better way than I can. Also a link to this Goodreads review which I feel is also a very great critical review of this book.

Rainbow Rowell’s books

Yeah I know it sounds kind of shitty to be like “I’m not going to read this authors books because of one bad book” but 🤷🤷 what can I say? I just don’t care for some of the things this author has said in the past and Eleanor & Park is something I wish I could wipe from my memory.

A Fierce and Subtle Poison by Samantha Mabry

Unfortunately I already I own this one and it was a cover buy ://// But after actually reading some reviews, I’ve quickly changed my mind about this one. I’m linking this Own Voices review for the Puerto Rican rep in the book, which according to the reviewer was done in a distasteful way. Also this book has super low ratings, which I don’t usually let dictate whether I’m going to read something or not, but yikes.

Fairest by Marissa Meyer

fairest cover

I just kind of lost interest in this series and I never bothered to pick this up. The cover is neat though.

  1. Yeah, I don’t even include Fairest in the Lunar Chronicles series because it feels like a standalone novella — who really cares about Levana’s story? She’s a terrible egocentric monster who wants to commit genocide, soooo… sad about her tragic childhood, or whatever.

I have a copy of A Fierce and Subtle Poison that someone gave to me and now I don’t think I’d feel bad giving it away…

    • Yeah it really is lol. When I first joined Goodreads I think I went a little overboard on adding books that I saw were 4 stars or higher or books with covers I liked.
