Here today with a non-bookish post but since it’s SPOOKY SEASON I figured I’d make some Halloween-related lists! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and ever since I was a kid I always watched a bunch Halloween movies and these are ones that have some nostalgic value to me and maybe to other people as well! Enjoy 🎃🎃🎃
Well basically anything Scooby Doo is spooky but I have a few specific Scooby Doo movies and specials I used to watch and still LOVE to this day.
This is one of the first Scooby Doo movies I watched. This one is genuinely SCARY and DARK. Also has a lot of great twists and backstories for the monsters.
This is such a fall favorite and it’s perfect for Halloween! Another darker than the usual Scooby Doo It’s got that crisp fall aeshetic and WITCHY stuff and also….
THE HEX GIRLS (and they’re gonna put a spell on you!)
Then there’s this special that only features Scooby and Shaggy as the main characters but also has a memorable ghoulish cast of monster girls!!! How awesome is that??
Disney Channel Movies
Of course the Disney Channel has had many iconic Halloween movies but these two in particular are my faves for life.
There’s A LOT of Casper movies but I’ll always have fun watching this one. Granted it’s been years since I last watched this so I don’t know how well this holds up. I also used to really like the sequel that was a direct-to-VHS sequel which is one I can admit is probably not very good lmao.
The Addams Family & The Addams Family Values
*CUE THEME MUSIC*
One of the best and healthiest depictions of a family ever. Just a fact. When I can I become a member of the Addams Family??
This is just on here mainly because of nostalgia and I also want to see who else remembers this?? Maybe no one because this movie almost feels like I just made it up. It probably doesn’t hold up but I remember enjoying this every year it came on Cartoon Network during their Halloween schedule.
I think this is a great, underrated film. This was a weird spooky animated film that I don’t think gets talked about much. It’s pretty dark for a kids film and has quite a lot of adult humor that definitely went over my head when I was younger. The monster house itself has a very interesting and bizarre backstory that makes this such a unique film.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Of course I had to put this one on here. The movie that gets to be placed on both Halloween and Christmas lists. It’s double awesome!
Double, Double, Toil & Trouble
I used to be a huge Mary-Kate and Ashley fan when I was little. I owned most of their movies and TV specials. This was one of my favorites, despite the fact that it scared me and I didn’t know why until I re-watched some of it this month and WOW. I can see why because it just has a creepy vibe. It’s all in the atmosphere. Maybe I still just get spooked easily.
It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown
A classic that my whole family watches every year. I enjoy the Charlie Brown specials every year and this one is my personal favorite. I love the idea of The Great Pumpkin! My favorite part is when Charlie Brown is trick r treating and everyone gives him a rock instead of candy.
And finally…HOCUS POCUS! I don’t think I fully appreciated how wonderful this one was until I got a bit older. I think I first watched this when I was 6 or 7 and it SCARED me so much because I was watching this at night and no one else was awake and I thought that the witchy stuff was real (tbh I still do!). I watch this every year and it’s such an iconic film. I believe that this year is also it’s 25th anniversary which is cool and amazing that it’s in the minds of so many people after all those years.
