I know its considered poor taste to judge a book by its cover but a good cover sells a book for me. And what better way to celebrate my birthday by gushing about book covers??
2019 has been filled with gorgeous, stunning, and awesome covers so this was actually hard to do and I feel bad that I left out some I really liked. However I think these picks are the best of the best. You’ll also notice that I really stuck with one theme because I think the cover designers this year really nailed book cover with faces. Let’s get to it!
Wilder Girls by Rory Power
Cover by Regina Flath & Aykut Aydogdu
This cover is gorgeous but also twisted and disturbing. The combination of the flowers growing and the face falling apart is a great choice. I haven’t read this one yet but its one of my most anticipated reads of the year.
Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson
Cover by Charlie Bowater
I loved the design for An Enchantment of Ravens, Margaret Rogerson’s debut, so I was happy to see that the same artist came back for this one. Girls with swords is a great aesthetic.
This Time Will Be Different by Misa Sugiura
Cover by Grace Lee & Sarah Creech
Not only does this have the floral aesthetic but a pretty girl! I think its always a plus for a book that features a character of color to actually have that represented on its cover. The flowers actually do have meaning with the story since the main character, CJ and her family run a flower shop.
With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo
Cover by Erin Fitzsimmons & Erick Davila
Epic Reads actually did an interview with the creators behind this cover which you all should check out. But this cover with floral and also fruit is stunning and features Emoni herself.
Descendant of the Crane by Joan He
Cover by Feifei Ruan
Birds on covers are the new dragons and I’m not mad. The color scheme and the Chinese influences are gorgeous. I’m also linking the interview with the cover designer Feifei Ruan here so you can see what influenced them on the design.
Those were some of my favorite covers for this year, let me know some of yours 🙂
